This week’s Friday Five has a bit of a motivational feel about it, we’re really cracking on here at White Red and are pushing hard to deliver projects and develop the practice. Join us in taking a look at some of our weeks musings.
What we watched
Art Williams – Just Do It Speech
This speech by the Art Williams was delivered in 1987 and is an example of timeless motivation. The self-made billionaire is the founder of A.L. Williams & Associates and is one of the most successful insurance executives. Whats great about this is Art’s deep southern Georgian accent and he really go’s for it on the delivery.
What we read
Do the work by Steven Pressfield
This is a short book that we’ve been reading this week, it’s a bit of a reminder to stop making excuses and really knuckle down to just doing the work. Say you've got a book, a screenplay or a startup in your head but you're stuck or scared or just don't know how to begin, how to break through or how to finish. Do The Work takes you step-by-step from the project's inception to its ship date, hitting each predictable 'Resistance point' along the way and giving techniques and drills for overcoming each obstacle.
What we’ve listened too
NPR - All songs considered – The worst songs of all time?
This is a great series of podcasts, typically dedicated to finding the great songs that are out there. This is episode is very different, it is a bit of apleasure in pain episode where the hosts chronicle their favourite ‘earworms’. The songs that drive them insane. There’s some really funny moments in here and it’s fun to stop and think about the songs that drive you mad when heard.
What we’ve seen
Industrial Loft in The Netherlands was recently refurbished by Houtwerk BV, using the design of Witteveen Architecten. It’s a really nice project which utilises the industrial aesthetic but is also quite constrained with its use of ‘industrial’ artefacts and materials.
It seems that even Richard Branson is having a motivational week, his quote of the week couldn’t be more apt with our theme and nicely summarises our post for the week.
